About the artists

Chicago-based experimental musician and improviser KEVIN DRUMM returns to Boston for his first solo performance since 2014 for a singular, immersive performance employing the commanding resonances of the Great Engines Hall of Metropolitan Waterworks Museum. Keeping up with Drumm’s work is a daunting task. With over 100 releases available on his Bandcamp site and an additional one or two new things a month being added, Drumm’s work moves seamlessly between quavering, striated drones; dark, groaning rumbles; uneasy experiments in overlapping harmonic frequencies; and sputtered crackles and static of battered electronics.

ANREA PENSADO is an experimental musician, composer, and organizer, based in Salem, Massachusetts. While she initially composed mainly for acoustic instruments, she was gradually more attracted to working in a different, far more abrasive sound world. In her current work, she creates a highly personal sonic language using harsh, dense layers of sounds, often interwoven with her voice. Her live, interactive musical systems and use of invented language combine into inherently unstable performances full of ecstatic energy. In addition to her solo work, she has longtime collaborations with Chris Strunk & Walter Wright as Los Condenados, and Jen Gelineau & Stephanie Germaine as Phurnne. She also curates the Sonorium concert series.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Boston Foundation, as well as grants from the Boston Cultural Council and the Brookline Commission for the Arts, local agencies which are funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. It is also presented with the generous support of WZBC 90.3 FM.
