VIRTUAL: Blast Off – Exploring Pressure with Pumps and Balloon Rockets

Join Waterworks Museum Staff for a fun look at pressure! We’ll be taking a look at some of the science behind how pressure was used in the Waterworks’ steam engines and how pressure is used in Rocket Ships. Then, we’ll be making Balloon Rockets. This interactive 30-40 minute class is recommended for ages 5-12. Reservations Required, Suggested Donation $4. After you have registered, museum staff will send a Zoom link to access the class.

To make the Balloon Rocket, you will need:

  • String (minimum 3 ft long)
  • Balloon
  • Straw (larger than juice box size; can also use paper and tape to make a “straw”)
  • Paper Clip
  • Rocket ship cut out (will be emailed to you by museum staff)
  • Scissors
  • Crayons
  • Tape
