Safeguarding Boston’s Water through Land Protection
A talk presented by Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust and The Metropolitan Waterworks Museum
April 19, 2018
6:30 pm–8:00 pm
This year, Mount Grace will complete two of the largest conservation initiatives in Massachusetts history, permanently protecting 4,500 acres of land in collaboration with state and local partners. The Quabbin to Wachusett and Quabbin Heritage projects enable 30+ families in six towns to conserve the land they hold in the watersheds of the Quabbin and Wachusett reservoirs—protecting the scenic rural landscapes of our towns while keeping drinking water safe for millions of Massachusetts citizens.
Through the last eight years, Sarah Wells, Director of Land Protection at Mount Grace, has helped coordinate this trailblazing effort to protect the forests and open space that safeguard the drinking water used by two million Massachusetts residents. Her presentation will incorporate stories of the participating landowners and feature the Boston area debut of “What The Land Is,” Mount Grace’s new movie.
This event is free. Please RSVP to assist with planning. Light refreshments will be served.

Moving Water: From Ancient Innovations to Modern Challenges
Ancient civilizations engineered water systems that sustained communities for thousands of years. This exhibition spotlights six places that innovated ways to deliver, and control water for human use. It also looks at how climate change is impacting all of those places, forcing public officials to consider new ways to keep the water flowing.
