Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Waterworks Museum! Within our landmark historic building in Boston, we preserve the monumental steam engines and historic artifacts that tell the story of how clean, safe drinking water was engineered for Boston and surrounding towns, beginning in the 19th century.

We are a dynamic organization that can offer our volunteers unique experiences, fun opportunities, and the excitement of engaging with visitors from all over the world!

All volunteers must be at least 15 years of age or older (those under 18 must have parental permission to volunteer with us). We have three main volunteer roles:

  • Museum Ambassador
  • Public Tour Guide
  • Community Event Volunteer

In the current environment with Covid-19, we are only able to host Museum Ambassadors, who answer questions for visitors exploring the Exhibit Hall as requested, and Public Tour Guides, who lead a group of visitors through a 30-minute tour of our Exhibit hall.  We hope to resume running larger education groups and events with our volunteers as the situation improves. All volunteers, staff, and visitors are currently required to wear a face-covering and maintain physical distancing while inside the museum. Training to comply with State and local health expectations and to ensure the safety of visitors and staff, will be provided.

Please fill out the requested information below to apply for a volunteer position within the museum. Once received, a staff member will contact you shortly.
